Being the parent

How certain days
The boundaries are tested
Reaching their limits
Of subtle give and take
Consequences to live by
At a tender vibrant age
Are you aware of
Whats right and wrong?

Sometimes your friend
Sometimes the enemy
Being the parent
A job title I declare

Engaging rules are guidelines
Founded by love
Its for your protection
To shape who you are
For a brighter future
Surely only the toughest
Will survive tomorrow's terms
The world is not your oyster

I go to bed each night
Working through the list
The choices I make
I need to make sure
Your interests are met
I have a sworn duty
To uphold and maintain 
Not an easy given task
