Growing up

I watch you
From an infant
To a young man
Growing up in my eyes
Not all roses
Heartache along the way
When I see you
And you don't need me

I groom you
To become a citizen
A person who stands out
Growing up in my eyes
Not all rainbows
Heartache along the way
When I see you
And you're standing by yourself

I teach you
Manners and distinctive behaviour
To keep your name high
Growing up in my eyes
Not all candy
Heartache along the way
When I see you
Shutting the door closed

I lead you
With wisdom and knowledge
To be successful one day
Growing up in my eyes
Not all giggles
Heartache along the way
When I see you
Driving down the road

A mother and a father
Must choose to let you go
Be the person you are
No matter how hard
It is to watch you
Stumble and fall
For some lessons learnt
Can only be by your own failure

From the heart
Char
